When winter in Gold Coast, Australia rolls in, travellers sometimes expect the fun to wind down. That’s not the case here. Surfers Paradise stays lively with sunlit days, crisp ocean air, and plenty to enjoy within walking distance.

Stroll the evening markets, catch live music, or soak in the views from above the coastline. The season still brings everything worth doing, just with fewer crowds and cooler nights.

Whale watching, art-filled afternoons, and indoor favourites all belong on the list. On the Gold Coast, winter slows nothing down. It simply shifts the tempo.

Winter in Gold Coast, Australia

Winter in Gold Coast, Australia, takes a softer approach to the season. While cities down south layer up, the coast stays bright with mild breezes and blue skies.

Daytime temperatures hover near 21°C, and locals adjust to lighter layers without skipping their outdoor routines.

Plenty happens through the cooler months, and there’s no need to stay in. Attractions stay open, the pace is relaxed, and the atmosphere has a refreshing calm.

What makes the Gold Coast in winter stand out:

  • Mild weather is ideal for outdoor strolls and sightseeing
  • Smaller crowds at major venues and beaches
  • Clear skies that turn every sunset into a photo opportunity

Markets stay active, galleries rotate new exhibits, and seasonal events fill the calendar. The winter Gold Coast experience invites visitors to slow down and take it all in without giving up the energy of a beachside destination.

Walkable Winter Fun

Winter in Surfers Paradise suits those who enjoy slow strolls, easy outings, and a sense of spontaneity.

The weather stays kind, the breeze is fresh, and almost everything worth doing sits within easy reach of St Tropez Resort. For guests who want to stay local without missing out, these nearby spots bring just the right mix of casual and memorable.

Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets

These beach markets Gold Coast visitors love run on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday evenings. They stretch along the Esplanade with stalls selling handmade goods, souvenirs, and easy bites to eat.

With live music and ocean views, it’s one of the most relaxed things to do in Surfers Paradise during winter. The cooler air makes wandering the stalls even more enjoyable.

The Wax Museum Gold Coast

Just a few streets away, this museum is unlike any other. With its mix of history, folklore, and lifelike figures, it adds an unexpected edge to your day. It’s among the more curious Gold Coast things to do, and the guided tour adds extra intrigue without taking up too much time.

Holey Moley Surfers Paradise

Neon lights, themed putting lanes, and cheeky cocktails define this local favourite. Holey Moley Surfers Paradise brings mini golf into a playful new setting.

It’s popular with groups, especially after dark. Located near the heart of the Surfers Paradise shopping precinct, it’s easy to find and hard to leave without a laugh.

Views and Culture

Winter light softens the skyline and slows the pace just enough to enjoy Surfers Paradise in a different way. The following spots invite a quieter kind of day out, without losing the wow factor.

SkyPoint Observation Deck

The SkyPoint Observation Deck sits 230 metres above sea level inside the Q1 building. It’s only a short walk from Surfers Paradise Beach and offers sweeping views of the coast, hinterland, and city.

During the Gold Coast in winter, the air stays crisp and skies remain clear, ideal for sunset visits. Grab a seat, enjoy a drink, and watch the coast change colour. Bring a jacket, the temperature drops once you’re at the top.

Home of the Arts Gold Coast

Just ten minutes inland, Home of the Arts Gold Coast (HOTA) brings together film, music, theatre, and contemporary exhibitions.

It’s a top pick for those asking what to do in Gold Coast when the evenings turn cool. Check the calendar for winter comedy shows, indie screenings, and indoor events that keep things warm, creative, and close to the heart of the city.

Winter Highlights Nearby

While much of the fun in Surfers Paradise is walkable, a short drive opens up a few seasonal standouts. During Gold Coast winter, one of the coast’s most extraordinary experiences happens just offshore.

Whale Watching Tours – Main Beach

Between June and October, humpback whales travel along the coast as part of their northern migration. This seasonal movement aligns perfectly with the

The Gold Coast winter makes whale watching tours a popular choice for Gold Coast guests. Tours depart daily from Main Beach Marina and head into open water, where sightings are frequent.

Expect to see:

  • Breaches
  • Tail slaps
  • Full-body rolls

Morning cruises tend to run on calmer seas, and onboard commentary offers helpful background while still letting the moment lead. Be sure to:

  • Dress for the wind
  • Bring your camera
  • Keep your eyes on the horizon

If you’re narrowing down things to do in Surfers Paradise this winter, this is one to keep high on the list. It’s low effort, visually spectacular, and always memorable.

Plan a Cosy Escape

While other places slow down in winter, the Gold Coast, Australia, keeps things easygoing without losing its spark. Mild days, crisp nights, and a softer tempo set the tone for the season. It’s a great time to stretch out, skip the queues, and enjoy a gentler pace by the sea.

The winter Gold Coast experience highlights a few seasonal standouts:

  • Open-air twilight markets
  • Panoramic views at sunset
  • Whale watching during the migration months

There’s no shortage of things to do in Surfers Paradise, and winter clears the way for more relaxed outings without the usual crowds. The weather plays along, too—sunlight stays, and the cooler breeze makes wandering that much more comfortable.

This part of the coast doesn’t put on a show. It keeps the charm steady with:

  • Quiet mornings near the beach
  • Cultural afternoons at galleries or the cinema
  • Unhurried nights in the heart of town

For travellers chasing ease and variety, the Gold Coast things to do in winter deliver a season well worth remembering.

Family attractions should give everyone something to look forward to. These Surfers Paradise attractions bring laughs, speed, and a welcome dose of air-con. You’ll find high-energy spots that keep things moving and make you look like the one who nailed the itinerary. Easy to plan, close to home base, and well worth locking in.

Top Surfers Paradise Attractions

These attractions are family-approved, heat-proof, and within easy walking distance of central Surfers.

You won’t need to organise transport or queue with tired kids. Each one brings something different: indoor action, water-based sightseeing, or group problem-solving. These are the family activities Gold Coast visitors talk about long after they’ve checked out.

Timezone Surfers Paradise

This is no dusty arcade. Timezone Surfers Paradise spans multiple levels and keeps all ages engaged with bumper cars, laser tag, mini bowling, and digital racing.

Nearby Eats: Try Chevron Renaissance cafés for casual, kid-friendly meals.

Infinity Attractions

Infinity Attractions is a sensory maze filled with glowing walkways, mirrors, and visual illusions. It’s popular with kids aged 8 to 14 and always sparks a few laughs.
Packing Tip: Leave hats and accessories behind. Anything loose can be distracting inside the mirror maze.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Surfers Paradise

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Surfers Paradise is full of strange facts, quirky objects, and interactive displays. It’s part museum, part amusement, and all fun.
Good To Know: Bring a camera. There’s plenty you’ll want to snap.

Aquaduck Gold Coast

Aquaduck Gold Coast starts on wheels and cruises straight into the water. This amphibious tour suits all ages and includes commentary, views, and a chance for kids to take the wheel.
Local Insight: Departs daily from Surfers Paradise, just minutes from most accommodation.
Booking Tip: Reserve online to avoid missing your preferred departure time.

iFLY Surfers Paradise

At iFLY Surfers Paradise, kids as young as three can experience skydiving indoors. They float on a column of air in a fully controlled wind tunnel.
Heads Up: Spectators can watch for free. Flight packages begin at $89.
Transport Tip: Walking is easiest. Paid parking is available nearby.

Hijinx Hotel Surfers Paradise

Hijinx Hotel Surfers Paradise isn’t an accommodation. It’s a set of game-themed rooms that test teamwork, speed, and memory. Kids and adults get swept up in the challenge.
Time Tip: Plan for 1 to 1.5 hours to complete the experience.

Fox in a Box Escape Room Gold Coast

Fox in a Box Escape Room is a strong pick for teens and families who enjoy solving puzzles under pressure. Work as a team to beat the clock across themed rooms.
Who It Suits: Best for ages 12 and up.
Booking Tip: Rooms fill quickly during school holidays or on rainy days.

Slingshot Gold Coast

Slingshot Gold Coast is pure adrenaline. This ride hurls you into the air at intense speed, perfect for families with older kids who want something fast and loud.
Know Before You Go: Height and age limits apply.
Why It Works: It adds thrill to the mix for those who crave more action.

Local Tips for Family Fun

Knowing when to go and how to plan can turn a good day into a great one.

For less waiting and more play:

  • Visit Timezone, iFLY, or Hijinx Hotel before lunch
  • Book Aquaduck and Fox in a Box early, especially during school holidays
  • Look out for combo passes at Infinity and Ripley’s to keep costs manageable

Short breaks help reset the pace. Pick up a gelato near Cavill Mall or pause at Chevron Renaissance, where shaded tables make it easy to recharge.

Queensland heat builds quickly:

  • Wear light clothing
  • Keep water close
  • Space out activities to avoid the midday rush

That rhythm is what keeps family holidays QLD relaxed while you tick off the best family activities Gold Coast has waiting.

Take Time to Slow Down

Downtime is part of the plan, too, and Surfers Paradise makes it easy.

After a busy morning, a slower afternoon can shift the pace for the better. These quiet pauses help everyone recharge without stepping away from the fun:

  • Walk along the beachfront at your own pace
  • Rest in the shade near the foreshore
  • Cool off with poolside downtime at your apartment

Many attractions are only minutes apart on foot. That makes it easy to grab a smoothie, stretch the legs, or enjoy a beach break between sessions without crowding the schedule.

Some of the most memorable things to see in Gold Coast are the calm ones, close, simple, and exactly what you need.

Keep Your Days Full and Easy

You don’t need to leave Surfers Paradise to create a family trip full of energy and ease.

The best things to do in Surfers Paradise are nearby, simple to plan, and suited to all ages. Choose a few well-paced stops each day and give your crew time to enjoy each one without the rush. Every experience brings something fresh, and all are within easy reach of your apartment.

This kind of approach keeps family holidays in QLD stress-free while making space for the moments that matter.

The Perfect Base for Big Days Out

When the goal is fun, your accommodation shouldn’t slow you down.

At St Tropez, you’re within walking distance of the top Surfers Paradise attractions such as Aquaduck, Infinity, iFLY, and more. No transport hassles, no rigid timetables, and no parking stress.

Start the day at your own pace, pause for a swim, and still tick off your itinerary with ease. This level of convenience keeps things smooth without cutting corners.

Make your next family stay simpler. Book your apartment at St Tropez and stay close to everything that matters.

Let the adventure begin!

Surfers Paradise Things To Do

Go on a fun sightseeing tour with Gold Coast on Aquaduck Gold Coast or Quack’rDuck

Tour the Gold Coast on land and water with Aquaduck Gold Coast or Quack’rDuck. The tour involves riding an amphibious vehicle painted like a duck. Choose between Aquaduck Gold Coast or Quack’rDuck, located near St Tropez Resort in Surfers Paradise.

Aquaduck Gold Coast’s guided tour lasts for an hour and runs through some of the main attractions on the Gold Coast on land and water. This is a fun and relaxing tour, especially when you have little children. It will be exciting for them as Aquaduck allows kids to take turns driving the vessel on the water.

The Aquaduck tour departs from its headquarters on Cahill Avenue in Surfers Paradise. This is only a few minutes walk from St Tropez Resort. The tour costs $40 for kids and $50 for adults. Tickets for seniors are $47 and $169 for the entire family (which includes two adults and two children).

Quack’rDuck also operates on the same concept. It’s a guided tour of the Gold Coast’s most famous sights on land and water.

The first tour starts at 10:30 in the morning, and the last tour for the day ends at 4:45 pm. Tickets for adults cost $50, $40 for kids aged 2 to 17, and $169 for the whole family (two adults and two children). Seniors can buy their tickets for the tour at $47.

You can book the Aquaduck Gold Coast tour here. Or book the Quack’rDuck tour here.

Check out some birds at Macintosh Island Park

There are plenty of things to do on the Gold Coast, which can get pretty hectic. Get a moment respite or a morning of calm at Macintosh Island Park. This tranquil haven features playgrounds, babbling streams, and quiet picnic areas.

Sit down on one of the park benches if you want to give your feet a rest from all that walking or running after your kids.

This is also a bird sanctuary, so don’t be surprised if you encounter peacocks and other birds here and there. If you need to escape the hustle and bustle of the world, then this is one of the best places to visit on the Gold Coast.

Marvel at the wax figures at the Gold Coast Wax Museum

The Gold Coast Wax Museum in Surfers Paradise opened in 1968 and is a must-visit whether you’re a fan of wax figures or not.

The museum features famous figures in world and local history, including US presidents, Australian leaders, and the British royal family. There are also hyper-realistic wax figures of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Joseph Stalin, and other world-changers.

You’ll also find wax figures of famous people in the entertainment industry. These include Kylie Minogue, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The wax museum features dioramas of famous nursery rhymes, historical events, and everyday life.

Admission to the Gold Coast Surfers Paradise Wax Museum costs $35 for adults and $28 for children. The museum also offers special pricing for families and groups of 5 or more. Buy your tickets here.

Visit Ripley’s Believe it or Not! in Surfers Paradise

If you want a unique and more interactive experience, check out Ripley’s Believe it or Not! in Surfers Paradise. This is one of the best things to do in Surfers Paradise, and this place is excellent for people who like unusual or bizarre exhibits and news of incredible feats.

The attraction is in the heart of Surfers Paradise and is part of the Cavill Mall.

The current attraction includes the usual Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Exhibit and the 7D Moving Theatre. There’s also the fun Mirror Maze. You can purchase Combo Tickets if you want a more immersive experience or Single Tickets if you have a flight to catch in the afternoon.

Get a bird’s eye view of Surfers Paradise and beyond from the SkyPoint Observation Deck

The SkyPoint Observation Deck is located atop the Q1 building, one of the tallest residential buildings in the world. You can chill out at the deck or enjoy the view as you munch on delicious food created by SkyPoint Bistro + Bar.

SkyPoint is open during the day and evening, allowing visitors to witness the stunning daylight vistas and the sparkling city lights at night. Sunset views from the observation deck are particularly popular.

The observation deck often features interactive displays and information about the landmarks visible from the vantage point. This educational aspect enhances the overall experience for visitors.

For those seeking a more adventurous experience, SkyPoint offers the SkyPoint Climb, an external climb on the spire of the Q1 building. This guided climb provides an adrenaline-pumping experience with even more spectacular views.

Purchase your SkyPoint Observation Tickets here.

Experience psychedelic lights at Infinity attraction

Have you ever gone whale watching on the Gold Coast? If you don’t, you’re missing out. These magnificent aquatic animals are breathtaking, especially up close. The Gold Coast is the finest place to witness these gentle giants.

With a season from late May to early November, the Gold Coast has some of the best whale viewing in the world. The city is home to a magnificent natural display daily as whales migrate to warmer seas up north and back south in the spring.

The ‘Humpback Highway’ is the migration path of fantastic sea creatures, with an estimated 35,000 whales passing through the Gold Coast each year. With population numbers increasing year after year, there is a lot of marine traffic along the Humpback Highway, making for fantastic whale watching.

Furthermore, when the migration is at its greatest, July and August are the busiest months on the Humpback Highway. Large pods pass through, and the sight of their spray and dashing out to sea from Gold Coast beaches is usual. Pregnant females travel slowly north, while numerous adult males are there, contending for the attention of the lady whales. They start heading south again in September, and by the end of the season in October, there are many mothers with newborns, which is a truly magnificent sight to watch.

Are you looking forward to seeing the whales up close? Here are some fantastic tours that you and your family can take.

Sea World Cruises

Sea World Cruises is the only whale-watching company on the Gold Coast that knows everything there is to know about whales. Sea World Cruises, the Gold Coast’s longest-running cruise company, is one of the area’s most popular whale-watching tour operators due to its diverse cruise choices, contemporary vessels, and first-rate service.

From May 27 to November 5, their Whale Watch Cruise is available. Setting sail from Sea World, Main Beach, you will embark on an unforgettable wildlife adventure in the hands of Australia’s most-awarded whale-watching operator. Enjoy personal contacts and be amused by their well-regarded crew while admiring the acrobatic abilities of these cheerful and inquisitive gentle giants.

It would be great to stop by their gorgeous beachfront Deck Cafe before or after your tour. The chefs at Sea World Cruises serve light snacks daily that are ideal for your whale viewing trip.

Sea World Marine Park

You should take advantage of their Whale Watching Combos if interested. If you have children, they will enjoy an aquatic day on the Gold Coast with a great Whale Watching Cruise and a visit to Sea World.

In each themed precinct, Sea World offers a range of exhibits, entertainment, animal adventures, and rides. In Nickelodeon Land, there are numerous beautiful rides and interactive experiences in the Castaway Bay precinct. In addition to these two, Sea World debuted The New Atlantis.

This immersive outdoor precinct includes three all-new attractions – Leviathan, Trident, and Vortex – brave huge currents, investigate a mighty beast and rule from the skies with these rides. Your children will undoubtedly enjoy a visit to this marine park as well!

Are you ready for an unforgettable family adventure? Early planning is essential to have enough time to prepare and select the best dates. Choose a Surfers Paradise accommodation that gives you access to everything the Gold Coast offers.

In Gold Coast’s most popular holiday location, relax in one of our bright, spacious, and self-contained apartments at St Tropez Holiday Apartments. Our apartments have furnished lounge rooms, full kitchen appliances, and welcoming private balconies.

We provide excellent visitor amenities, such as an outdoor pool and barbeque area in a tranquil tropical landscape. St Tropez Holiday Apartments is also roughly 90 kilometres from Brisbane International Airport and 30 kilometres from Coolangatta Airport.

Are you looking for family-friendly activities this school holiday? Have you heard of the Kids Take Over at the Home of the Arts? In general, HOTA is for everyone as it is a venue for live performances, art, lakeside strolls, stargazing, movie-watching, conversation, and new ideas.

But HOTA also annually hosts a mini-festival during the autumn and spring school holidays. Kids Take Over is a program designed for and by kids that includes a variety of free and ticketed workshops, visual arts experiences, performances, and everything in between.

It’s the Gold Coast’s ultimate memory-maker, boredom-buster, and creative play festival for kids under 12. Stand back and watch as the next generation unleashes their imaginations. This year, Kids Take Over returns as part of their annual WONDER program from September 19 to September 25.

Why not have fun and nourishing holiday instead of being glued to the television, gaming consoles, or gadgets? Here are a few of the many activities during Kids Take Over.

Augmented Reality

September 19

The Augmented Reality workshop will teach kids how to use augmented reality with the Eye Jack app. The kids will be able to create an interactive experience by combining their own designed drawings with computer-generated perceptual information.

This workshop will teach your kids the fundamentals, and once they’ve mastered them, they’ll be able to download the app and show their friends how to make their own. This 4-hour workshop is perfect for children aged 7 to 11, with a lunch break from 12:30 pm to 1 pm.

The Quest

September 22 to 24

Children are naturally adventurous. They will undoubtedly enjoy going on a quest. It takes a lot of creativity and deciphering clues! The first clue is at the HOTA Cafe Terrace, where kids will be sent on an adventure and tasked with completing six workshops and activities they can do with their family and friends.

Erth’s Prehistoric World

September 23 to 24

Erth’s Prehistoric World combines theatrical magic and charm, bringing together ancient creatures from land and sea in one show. It transports the audience to the ocean’s depths to discover old bio-luminescent animals, incredible marine reptiles, and the most incredible dinosaurs ever walking the Earth’s surface.

Family Fiesta

September 25

It’s a free day of family entertainment on the Outdoor Stage to mark the end of Kids Take Over and HOTA’s annual WONDER program. The day starts with Goat Yoga on the Outdoor Stage, followed by HOTA’s weekly Farmer’s Markets, Mini Markets run by children, Moroccan tile painting, craft, anime, and stop-motion animation workshops, circus performances, live music, and live music.

There are more events to look forward to this school holiday at HOTA’s Kids Take Over. Book a stay in the heart of Surfers Paradise to ensure you have the best experience possible.

HOTA is only a 10-minute drive from St Tropez Holiday Apartments. Your family will have a great time relaxing and playing at the Surfers Paradise accommodation just steps from the beach. You can take advantage of the excellent guest amenities like the outdoor pool and barbecue. Guests staying at St Tropez Surfers Paradise apartments can also enjoy free, covered parking.
