The Kokoda Challenge

by | Jun 11, 2015

Pay your respects to those who fought bravely for Australia by climb the stairs. Tackle the Kokoda Challenge this month to see what you’re made of. The challenge will test your endurance, strength and will power. The challenge is certainly not for the faint hearted but the event is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Join a team of four and complete the challenge but don’t forget to register first!

The Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast is considered one of the toughest endurance events in Australia. It is a gruelling cross country, 4-person team event held over 96km, with a time limit for completion of 39 hours. Participants (with the help of their Support Crew) trek a 96km course that leads along fire trails, crosses 12 creeks, and summits 5,000m of vertical elevation. The end goal is to cross the finish line as a complete team of four. This honours the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942: mateship, endurance, courage and sacrifice. People who participate in The Kokoda Challenge are rewarded not only with a great personal achievement, but also a way to honour the Kokoda legacy and support local teenagers to gain a brighter future for themselves and their families through the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program (KCYP). School teams can also enter into the 96 km Stan Bisset Cup and 48 km Jim Stillman Cup. Teams of four students, plus a leader (usually a teacher) make up the field for these events. Over 200 teams from schools are currently involved in The Kokoda Challenge event on the Gold Coast.  Join the The Kokoda Challenge – Gold Coast on the 18th of July to the 19th of Jul 2015, 07:00am at Firth Park, Mudgeeraba, QLD.
